club leagues

There are two leagues: summer and winter.

The summer league first appeared in 2003 and consists of hill races; quite often incorporating Scottish Championship events and more recently covering British races too. A great chance to see a bit of the country.

The winter league is a long established series of races held from October to March, taking in cross-country, trail and road. A great chance to see places like Dumbarton, Bailleston and Renton.

Update 10-Mar-08:
Following the Balloch to Clydebank Half Marathon, the final race in the winter league, Muffy and Chris finished equal first on 39 points.

The Rules:

The Westies Winter League consists of 18 events. You get 2 points for participating in each event, except for the two club handicaps and the National XC Champs, when each finisher will receive 3 points. Two bonus points are gained for every 5 events completed, a further 2 if 10 are completed, a further 2 for 15 completed events, and for anyone enthusiastic to complete all 18, there will be a special bonus of 5 additional points.

In addition, to encourage mass participation, each finisher gets 1 bonus point if 6 Westies complete an event, 2 points if 10 Westies complete an event and 3 points if 15 or more Westies finish.

Finally, 2 bonus points are awarded for anyone posting a pb (this only applies for identical events to previous years).

The 18 counting races are as follows: West District Relays, DAAA Cross Country Relays, National Relays, GU Road Race, DAAA Cross Country, West District Cross Country, Westies Xmas Handicap, Cambuslang 10K, Nigel Barge 10K, Jack Crawford 10K, Devils Burdens Relay, HBT Grudge Match, Chatelherault 5K, National Cross Country, Carnethy 5, Kirki 12.5K, In-the-Dark Handicap, and Balloch-to-Clydebank Half Marathon.
